Isaacs Insurance Grows into a New Space in Somerset

April 16, 2025

SOMERSET, KY – Harold Isaacs has worked methodically to grow his small-town insurance business over the past 38 years. In 2024, his company had grown so much he needed to expand to a larger office space.

Harold Isaacs has provided insurance services in the southcentral Kentucky area since 1987.

Isaacs Insurance has provided all types of insurance services for Pulaski and surrounding counties in southern Kentucky since 1987. Isaacs is the founder and the heart of this family-owned business. He’s a Pulaski County High School and Somerset Community College graduate who earned a degree in Agriculture from the University of Kentucky.

Harold married his wife, Patti, in 1987. That was also the year he began his career in the insurance business as an agent for Allstate Insurance. The newly married couple worked together for the first few years until Patti started her career in education. Over the years, Harold worked diligently to grow his business from the ground up. His work has paid off.

Patti likes to call Harold the “insurance guru.”

“With his 38 years of experience in the field, he’s an expert and a fountain of wisdom on the subject, no matter what type of insurance is in question,” Patti says with a smile.

Isaacs Insurance has grown over the years. What began as a one-man operation has now evolved into a fully staffed, five-person office. Patti retired from teaching in 2021 and returned to work with Harold as office manager.

Since then, Harold and Patti have added two additional agents: Johnny Flatt, who sells auto, homeowners, and commercial insurance, and Dana Molden, who sells life, health, and Medicare insurance. Destiny Molden has also recently joined their staff in a part-time capacity. This increase in personnel necessitated that Harold and his staff relocate to a new and larger office space in the same building, adjacent to their old office.

The move would require the assistance of a nonprofit lender that provides technical assistance to its clients. Southeast Kentucky Economic Development Corporation (SKED) offered exactly what they needed to complete the job. SKED’s free technical assistance enabled its staff to assist the Isaacs in troubleshooting and resolving several issues that arose during the move.

“At the time of their move, Harold and everyone at Isaacs Insurance were extremely fortunate to obtain the assistance of SKED’s own Kyle Smith, who made himself indispensable in meeting our technological needs as we moved into our new space,” Patti said. “If Harold is our insurance guru, then Kyle holds the well-earned title of technology guru.”

SKED loan funds helped the Isaacs finance their office renovation.

“One benefit of working with a lender like SKED and Director of Lending Bob Burgess was the ease and convenience of securing a small business loan. Secondly, and most importantly for us, was the support and technological expertise offered by Kyle Smith. He helped us get our new computer systems and phones set up and integrated. We would have potentially been without computer access for weeks without Kyle overseeing the move and troubleshooting before the move ever happened.”

Burgess called the Isaacs’ office renovation an excellent example of how SKED meets the needs of the region’s small businesses of all types and sizes.

“I couldn’t ask for a better loan client than Harold,” Burgess said. “He and Patti are the quintessential business professionals – always conducting themselves with such integrity and professionalism that they made my work incredibly easy. It’s no surprise they’ve been a trusted presence in our community and across the south-central region, providing insurance services to so many. Their reputation truly speaks for itself.”
